Announcements for Santa Cruz Spine and Sport
We have some important announcements:
1.) We do not accept insurance, however, we started “Superbilling”. Upon request, our insurance patients will be emailed a super bill at the end of their visit. The super bill will have the diagnostic codes and procedures on it. All you have to do is send it into your insurance, and your insurance will reimburse you according to your out-of-network benefits. Check to see if your insurance reimburses for chiropractic care. If you don’t, you might want to consider joining our VIP Monthly Chiro program.
VIP Monthly Chiro Program: In 2023 VIP plans are $67/mo for a 15 minute session, or $95 for a 30 minute session.
You never lose a visit. They roll over, even if you don't use them that month.
You can gift away one of your accrued visits to a friend or family member (*this does not include new patient visits).
The only “catch” is you are obligated to 3 months before you can cancel your membership.
We are trying to be creative and provide affordable, and effective ways that can help people stay healthy and happy. If this sounds interesting to you, text or call us at 831-713-8400 and say you want to start the VIP.
Online Booking: We also have online booking. Click on the links above or below. You can schedule, cancel or re-schedule appointments, and set text message reminders for appointments. It’s very simple and easy to use!
About Santa Cruz Spine & Sport
At Santa Cruz Spine and Sport we are a like-minded group of Chiropractors and Massage Therapists who come together to help you move well so you can feel well. We do this through correcting dysfunctional movement patterns and releasing restrictions in the fascia, muscles, tendons, and joints capsules. By teaching proper movement patterns and engaging the proper muscle groups, patients find that their pain decreases and they are able to go back to the activities they love. We listen, we care, and we get results.

“ In order to create adaptation in the tendons we must load them” -Dr. Greg Lehman BKin, MSc, DC, MScPT”
How do you load your tendons? Body weight exercises like yoga or pilates? Resistance Bands? Weights? We follow the Reset and Reload principle. 1st we reset the body part that we are working with. This can be with mobilization and adjustments, or it can be with a mobility balls, foam rollers, fascial scraping tools. There are a multitude of ways of resetting the body. By resetting the muscles and joint complex we have primed and activated those areas, and now they are prepared for the reload phase. Think of the reloading phase as sending electricity through the system. As we do this we move slowly and listen to the body building up the signal. We are looking for the threshold of where there is either pain or a breakdown in the movement pattern. As we do this we are sending signals of growth and adaptations.
Our Chiropractic Approach
Generally patients have three similar goals: 1) to understand what is causing their pain, 2) to receive skilled treatment to help alleviate the pain, and 3) to learn what they can do to keep the pain from coming back. Dr. Justin McLeod DC, and Dr. Kelly Schweitzer DC share the same goals: We strive to provide the best treatments, so that you can enjoy a happy and active life pain-free.
During the first initial treatments, we will do a systematic evaluation of muscular imbalances. We start by analyzing static postural assessment, observing muscles for characteristic signs of tightness (hypertonicity) or overstretched and inhibited (hypotonicity), helping us determine the cause of pain. We then perform a function movement screen (FMS or SFMA) further assessing for movement restriction. Restriction can be caused by muscular tension, fascial tightness, joint restrictions, and/or improper motor pattern coordination. This information provides the clinician a system to determine if it a muscular imbalance, and/or motor control issue and/or a joint issue and/or a neurological problem. Based off the findings the clinician will choose the appropriate interventions to address the problems.
Our Massage Approach
Our bodies are like buckets and everyday we are pouring stress into it. From the physical, emotional, and environmental stresses we have a tendency to hold that tension in. A great way to relieve that anxiety is to get weekly or monthly massages before the stress turns into a constant pain.
Massage Therapists
We have two amazing massage therapists that have their own unique styles & techniques ranging from:
Deep Tissue / Sports Massage
Neuro-Muscular Massage
Pre & Post-Natal
Myofascial Stretch Therapy
We will have personal trainers coming soon to our clinic. Stay tuned for updates!
